For once, my back neighbors weren't revving their stupid giant trucks with their stupid giant wheels. My next door neighbors weren't mowing their lawn, and the dogs weren't barking. The dryer is broken, so no risk of that intrusive BUZZ!!! when it finished...husband is out of the state so no obligations there...and my fireplace doesn't seem to be working, so if I wanted to get warm, I really had no choice but to snuggle in with a good book. It couldn't have been a more ideal afternoon for a nap!!
I have an odd, somewhat obsessive, way of sleeping. I have tried other methods for falling asleep and nothing works. In order to sleep, I have to be on my right side with my left hand tucked under my chin, palm side up. What am I like 5 years old? I know, but it works. So I'm drifting off, enjoying my lovely afternoon thinking it just couldn't get any better, but it did. I was almost asleep when my adorable kitty hopped up on the bed and tucked herself in, leaning up against my stomach. She reached forward and put her paw in my open palm-and she squeezed. I opened my eyes and looked at her sweet little face and said "I love you." And we slept for 4 whole hours holding hands.
If you haven't experienced pet love, you are missing out on something really special. I know it isn't the same as a real baby cooing or smiling. Those things are untouchable in the world of cute. But I just couldn't help but write about this little blessing in my life-my very best friend! If you have a pet, give it an extra scratch behind the ears today-because they love you in so many little ways.
Adam and his two favorite red heads.
